Abstract: In this dissertation we propose an easy reader in Italian for Form II students, adapted from A. Moravia's "Storie della Preistoria". The accompanying material is intended to provide the students with an easier and more pleasant opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the language. We based our work on the concept that reading should be enjoyable both in a mother language and in a second language, yet in the compilation of the reader we have taken into consideration syntax, style, content matter and lexical frequency. The aim of these short stories is to provide the reader with adequate material in order to reach a high level of competency in reading, as compared to native language speakers. To facilitate the learner in the process of arriving to a global comprehension of the texts, we have added a didactic appendice, which includes language games for further practice of vocabulary, and a series of information and meanings related to the stories. We also conducted a quantitative and qualitative analysis on the vocabulary used in the adaptation of the stories. Therefore the objectives are pedagogigal, linguistic and literary.
