Abstract: The chapter begins by briefly exploring some of the global aspects of the development of occupational health and safety (OHS), with a particular focus on Europe. This is a followed by a discussion of developments in Malta, including major legislative milestones and the development of relevant departments such as the inspectorate. The impact of these changes is then explored via an analysis of National Statistics Office data. The analysis highlights that occupational fatalities and accidents have reduced substantially in the studied period. The chapter concludes by considering the current and future challenges Malta faces in respect to OHS.
