| Abstract: | Introduction: This article analyses the results of a recent in-depth investigation on the current financing situation faced by Maltese co-operatives with their increased diversity. It assesses the sources of finance used by them and the specific roles of commercial banks and the Central Co-operative Fund (CCF) in their financing. It also proposes ways of improving the co-operatives' means of financing. The analysis is based on two sources: data extracted from the financial statements of all co-operatives for the period 2009- 2010 and the response obtained from twenty-four semi-structured interviews with experts and co-operative representatives. |
