Abstract: This report attempts to study the hazards that would arise from the introduction of paint work processes in the vicinity of liquid oxygen storage tanks at Malta Shipbuilding. It discusses changes in risk levels with the introduction of additional hazards. The risk assessment reveals that whereas the present situation is well under control, painting and blasting operations would increase the risk factor to very high levels. However, with good will, commitment and an appropriate investment, this risk can be controlled to an acceptable level. If the recommendations are applied, a review of the residual risk would be necessary to ascertain that all risks have been controlled to an adequate level.
