Abstract: All around the world groups of informed and motivated people are striving to promote and adopt more responsible ways of living. Education is recognized as being essential to achieving sustainable development for all. There is also a growing acknowledgement that people everywhere need to develop the values and acquire the knowledge and skills to change their consumption behavior and to become more creative and active citizens. A key to this process is seeing oneself as a main actor in defining positive outcomes for the future. To assist in moving forward with this vision it is worth exploring what policies and practices are needed to facilitate education for sustainable living and what lessons can be learned from the initiatives already taking place in different countries. This brochure is the third in a series which focuses on formal and informal education for sustainable living and provides an overview of policies and practices from different countries.
