Occupational health and safety awareness at Enemalta Corporation

Abstract

The dissertation deals with the occupational Health and Safety Hazards existing at Enemalta Corporation, the workers' and management's awareness, together with the steps taken to control these risks . Being a Health and Safety Enforcement Officer, I have practical experience on the subject, but I wanted also to analyse actual occupational injury statistics for 1998, and get the workers' response to a questionnaire which I circulated to all the employees. The conclusion is that the last few years have seen significant improvement, but there is a lot more to be done. Chapter 1 deals with the Employment and Risk Factors at the Corporation, while Chapter 2 analyses the Variables affecting the relationship with Health and Safety. Chapter 3 analyses, with the help of a table, the injuries that occurred at Enemalta during the year 1998. Comments on the findings follow. Chapter 4 contains a discussion on the results of the Questionnaire and its evaluation. It includes tables and comments on each item of the Questionnaire. The Recommendations and Conclusion complete the essay. Particular emphasis on the aspect of awareness has been made in all sections of the dissertation.
