Abstract: The factors which determine the stability of any sport are the rules and the referees. Becoming a match official carries a high degree of responsibility as it is often the ultimate authority in any sport. The aims of this study are to look into the development of a Karate referee primarily the pressures faced during competitions, and the quick decision-making processes inherent in such activity. The data was collected through focus group discussions, interviews, and personal reflections. One can develop into a proficient Karate official through knowledge and experience. This self-reflective study has proven to be of paramount importance to me as it has enabled me to analyse my refereeing skills in the hope of reaching my full potential. Reaching such a position entails sitting for examinations and learning through experience. It is no wonder, that to withstand the pressures from internal and external factors require a strong personality and a great deal of confidence.
