| Abstract: | This work sets out to teach primary school children road safety procedures and traffic awareness. The children are then introduced to water activities such as swimming, finning and canoeing. The pedagogy and approach are of a very practical nature where the children are motivated to learn by doing, both in simulated and in real-life situations. The author thinks that it is of the utmost importance to teach children from a tender age that when playing in, or near the water, they need to be prudent and disciplined. This work gives a detailed account of the resources used in order to design and implement this extensive programme. It is satisfying to mention that at the time of writing, children from 'Dun Gusepp Xerri Primary School, St. Julians' have already benefited since the 'Educational Private Road' has just been launched at their school grounds. It is a pleasure to learn that a local television station featured this event during prime time on New Year's day. Finally, the author hopes that many other schools will adopt and include such programs as part of their curriculum, since he believes that such knowledge and training will help our youth develop and realise their potentials to the full in order to live a more fulfilling and healthy life. |
