Abstract: Automotive garages are workplaces undertaking widespread activities simultaneously. These places are frequented by many persons, in which various tasks in conjunction with vehicle maintenance and repair are carried out, including handling of chemical substances, mostly being irritant, highly flammable or corrosive. This environment poses considerable amount of risk to workers and clients alike. Apart from the impending and imminent chances of hazard from fire, due to vehicle fuels together with fumes and vapours produced, there are various circumstances, which could determine the workplace environment, as hazardous. This situation may not be clearly identified by workers. They could lack knowledge, information or instructions on work task processes and safe systems of work, or lack training. The study results yield that workers were not fully aware on the nature of occupational hazards or of safety control measures available to protect them. Yet this survey showed that, workers are interested to improve their current conditions, in order to work in a healthier and safer environment. Therefore it is fundamental, that through proper education and training, workers are capable of assessing hazardous work practices and identifying any potential risks in order to prevent accidents, injuries and ailments, that could have serious consequences on themselves, clients and the general public.
