Abstract: The objective of this long-essay is to study the work aspirations of unemployed individuals between the age of 30 and 45. Employment means more than an income. When people from this age cohort become unemployed they lose their sense of gratification and achievement of personal ambitions. Using structured interviews unemployed persons from different social backgrounds were chosen using 'purposive sampling'. The outcome from this study was that individuals in their middle-years suffer from psychological, sociological and financial problems during unemployment. Finally, the study attempts to put forward a number of suggestions to help unemployed people find employment. Motivating and investing in these individuals, can help them to achieve their aspirations.
