Junior College Collective Agreement signed

The University of Malta and the Malta Union of Teachers have reached a new collective agreement covering academics at the Junior College.

The deal, which was announced a few weeks ago, brought to a close a prolonged period of negotiations and industrial action, with the proposed package endorsed by academic staff just recently.

The agreement was formally signed by MUT President, Marco Bonnici, outgoing UM Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella, and President of the University Council, Perit Karmenu Vella. This was done in the presence of Minister for Education and Sport, Hon. Byron Camilleri.

The Collective Agreement introduces improved terms of employment, alongside enhanced remuneration for academic staff.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement that supports academic excellence as well as the needs of all the Junior College community. This is a collaborative outcome that provides a strong foundation for the continued delivering of high-quality education”, said UM Rector, Prof. Frank Bezzina.
