New series on the practice of international law launched

The Malta Branch of the International Law Association and the Department of International Law this month launched a new series designed to introduce students to the practice of international law.

The first session was a Lectio Magistralis entitled ‘Anchoring Justice in Stormy Seas: The Next Challenge for International Law?’ delivered by HE Judge Carmel Agius, President Emeritus of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and President of the Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.

Judge Agius examined how international law, particularly the law of the sea, must adapt to an era of mounting geopolitical rivalry, technological disruption and environmental stress.

He was introduced by Dr Felicity G. Attard, Senior Lecturer in the Department of International Law and President of the International Law Association Malta Branch.

The lecture was attended by students, academics, members of the United Nations and the Malta Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
