Bec's Legacy

Becs (Rebecca) Zammit Lupi passed away in 2021 at the age of 15. She is the daughter of Marisa Ford and Darren Zammit Lupi. Becs sadly died of a very rare Cancer called Ewing Sarcoma.

Every year Becs' dear friend, Tommy Walbank, runs a number of kilometres corresponding to her age.

This year would have been Becs' 21st birthday.

Following this year's run the sum of €1,785 was raised and donated to RIDT towards cancer research in Ewing Sarcoma at the University of Malta.

Nadine Sciortino is conducting the research as part of her PhD studies under the supervision of Dr Lucienne Gatt and co-supervisors Prof. Pierre Schembri Wismayer and Dr Annalise Cassar.

On Thursday 8 October 2026, Tommy Wallbank and Marisa Ford presented the donation to the Rector of the University of Malta, Prof. Frank Bezzina, who is also the Chairman of RIDT.

The Rector announced that the RIDT will be matching the amount donated for the same cause. He also encouraged other donations.
