Erasmus+ ENHANCE Project Meeting

Erasmus+ ENHANCE Project: Enhancing student teachers’ abilities to facilitate learners’ digital competence

Partners from five participating countries held a transnational meeting at the University of Malta between the 9th and 11th June 2026 as part of an Erasmus+ KA220-HED-Coperation partnerships in Higher Education Project. The visit was held at the Valletta Campus and hosted by Prof. Josephine Milton together with Prof. Josephine Deguara, Dr Jonathan Borg and Dr Patrick Camilleri from the Faculty of Education.

The Project focuses on Enhancing student teachers' abilities to facilitate and impart digital competency skills and understanding to their pupils. The meeting in Malta was an opportunity for the partners of the five participating countries to present data and preliminary findings from Work Package 2 (WP2). Current practices in the various schools in Malta, Ireland, Spain, Norway and Poland were shared pertaining to researchers’ classroom observations, together with insights gathered through interviews with student teachers and practicum examiners (mentors, teachers, tutors). This preliminary data indicates that a key outcome was the diversity within and across teacher education provision and the role of practicum placements in the different countries. Another outcome was that regardless of the availability of digital equipment available to student teachers, many student teachers did not see it as part of their direct role to advance their pupils digital competence. Collaboration on Work Package 3 (WP3) led the partners to identify key areas for development for student teachers across the institutions as a starting point for the development of a number of workshops to be held as one of the outcomes for next year. The meeting was concluded successfully, project milestones to date were achieved, and plans for future priorities and meetings were drawn up.

The local team would like to thank the UM Conference Unit at Valletta Campus and Mr Gabriel Spiteri for the support and collaboration in organising the meeting.
