The Faculty for Social Wellbeing, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and YMCA Valletta are organising a conference in memory of Charles Miceli, entitled 'Conference: Homelessness - the Hidden Scandal' on Friday 8 February at 9:00 at Verdala Palace, Buskett.
Abstract:
The housing crisis has become a stark reality in these past few years: an issue which is making vulnerable an unprecedented number of people with each passing year. Homelessness is not however an isolated issue in itself: it creates a domino-effect where those most vulnerable experience other problems such as mental-health issues and food insecurity. The situation in Malta has in the past few years been brought to the fore and is now being seriously discussed by various lobby groups, organizations and professionals.
This collaborative symposium will seek to highlight the prominent socioeconomic issues affecting homeless people in Malta, and will include a range of multidisciplinary workshops which will delve into particular subjects in greater detail. The symposium will help in raising even greater awareness on this delicate subject whilst imparting knowledge to professionals, volunteers, students and aid workers and inspire collaboration.
