This session will be presented and led by Ms Stephanie Bugeja.
The aim of this session is to focus on how, as lecturers in Further Education, we avoid situations where consciously or unconsciously, we might end up labelling students as incompetent and/or perhaps even impossible. The presentation will be based on the philosophical approach of Jacques Rancière, a French philosopher, who questioned the concept of ‘equality’ and ‘democracy’ within the educational system. This session will explore the creation of new teaching and learning environments where educators demonstrate different approaches to equality and democracy in the classroom.
Ms Stephanie Bugeja is a practicing Educational Psychologist. She is currently reading for a Ph.D., where she is conducting research involving the questioning of students’ voice in our educational system. She lectures in psychology both at the Junior College and at the University of Malta.
