This session, organised by the CPD committee, will be presented and led by Dr Liliana Marić.
The talk aims to create awareness about how an inclusive education policy could be put into practice in classrooms within further and higher educational institutions. The session will introduce the framework of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a possible way of how social justice and democracy in education could be implemented in a classroom that celebrates diversity. By applying UDL principles, educators would be in a position to enhance accessibility and reduce environmental, social and educational disabling barriers from a rights-based standpoint. Furthermore, the implementation of such a pedagogical tool is also beneficial to all students, particularly to those with visible and hidden disabilities and learning difficulties. Throughout the session, practical pedagogical strategies that could be used by lecturers to create a more inclusive environment will be presented.
Dr Liliana Marić teaches Home Economics at the University of Malta, Junior College. She is currently a tutor in the Masters in Teaching and Learning Degree. Her Ph.D. thesis focuses on the experience of inclusive education of disabled persons with physical and sensory impairment at further and higher education levels.
