GEW Malta 2025: Celebrating Collaboration, Creativity, and Community in Entreprenership

Last November, Malta once again joined over 200 nations in celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), the worldwide movement that empowers innovators and strengthens entrepreneurial ecosystems. Under this year’s theme, Together We Build, the GEW Malta 2025 programme highlighted the power of collaboration, shared learning, and community-building across the local entrepreneurship landscape. Hosted by The Edward de Bono Institute for Creative Thinking and Innovation at the University of Malta and coordinated by Prof. Leonie Baldacchino, GEW Malta 2025 featured a rich programme of workshops, lectures, recognition events, and discussions designed to support aspiring and established entrepreneurs alike.

The campaign opened on 5 November with the ‘From Learning to Leading’ workshop, organised by the Malta Business Bureau as part of the INNO-ANTIDOTE EU-funded project, and held at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry. This event encouraged young people to explore entrepreneurship as a meaningful pathway and introduced them to innovative and sustainable business idea development through keynote presentations and panel discussions focused on the role of both formal and informal education.

On 11 November, Prof. Baldacchino conducted a Creativity and Idea Generation workshop for Master in Entrepreneurship students, who gained practical skills to identify opportunities and apply creative thinking techniques to business idea development. The following day, Dr Ewa Kraska from Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Poland, delivered an online lecture to Master in Creativity and Innovation students, examining the full spectrum of funding pathways available to entrepreneurs, from bootstrapping to venture capital and crowdfunding. Her session helped participants evaluate which financing mechanisms best support their business ambitions and growth trajectories. GEW Malta continued on 12 November with the annual MBA Business Concept Pitching Event, during which International MBA students presented early-stage business ideas to a panel of experts. Organised by Prof. Nathaniel Massa, the event provided valuable formative feedback to guide students in developing comprehensive feasibility studies and determining the real-world viability of their proposed ventures.

On 13 November, the GreenBiz Awards celebrated micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises across Malta that are championing sustainable practices through eco-friendly products and services. This year’s winners included TerraSoil, Omoils, Golden Island, Vogue Xchange, Sincerely Hunny (Audience’s Choice Award), and Merill, which received the prestigious Green Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The awards, organised by Eco Market Founder Zen D’Amato Gautam, recognised the critical role of environmentally responsible innovation in Malta’s economic future. That same evening, the FPEI FF+ Women Entrepreneurs event brought together female founders who are redefining Malta’s entrepreneurial landscape. Moderated by Prof. Baldacchino, the discussion with Helen Chorley and Theresa Bartolo Parnis provided an inspiring and candid look at the challenges and triumphs of women in business, followed by networking that encouraged continued peer connection and support.

The GEW Malta 2025 programme concluded on 20 November with an international webinar hosted by The Edward de Bono Institute in partnership with EURAM’s (European Academy of Management) Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group, and the R.E.Pr.I.S.E. (Research on Entrepreneurship Processes, Innovation, and Startup Enterprises) network, on the theme of ‘Conflict and Collaboration in Entrepreneurship’. The webinar featured award-winning research on how emotions influence co-founders’ team satisfaction and exit intentions, presented by Christian Wimmer from Technical University of Munich. The event continued with a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Baldacchino, and including Prof. Sara Sassetti from the University of Pisa along with entrepreneurs Alexandra Sciberras, Kevin Attard and Daniel Damke Chiang, offering diverse perspectives on the human dynamics that shape entrepreneurial teams.

Reflecting on this year’s events, Prof. Baldacchino expressed deep appreciation for the commitment shown by partners, speakers, and participants: “For more than fifteen years, GEW Malta has brought our entrepreneurial community together to learn from one another, collaborate, and build more resilient ideas. I am pleased and grateful to see yet another successful edition that showcases the creativity, energy, and generosity of so many contributors.”
GEW Malta 2025 reaffirmed that entrepreneurship is not a solitary pursuit but a collective journey powered by shared ambition and mutual support. As Malta looks ahead, the connections forged during the week will continue to inspire and sustain those committed to building impactful ventures.
