Science in the City 2025 once again brought research to the streets of Valletta, and the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Malta was proud to be part of this national celebration of science.
Organised through the collective efforts of our Professors, Lecturers, Laboratory staff, Administrators, and the ever-enthusiastic Malta Pharmaceutical Student’ Association (MPSA) volunteers, this annual event showcases the dynamic role of pharmacy in society.
This year’s theme, Past Forward, inspired a “Pharmacy Time Machine” experience at our stand. From extemporaneous preparation using mortar and pestle for the youngest visitors, to a crossword puzzle and an interactive “Spin the Wheel” quiz with pharmacy-themed questions, the activities were designed to engage and educate across generations.
The public also got a close-up look at various drug delivery formats—capsules, tablets, pellets, and their colourants—sparking interest in pharmaceutical technology. The ever-popular blood pressure and glucose monitoring stations allowed our students to practice clinical skills while providing valuable health checks for adult attendees.
It was a vibrant and rewarding day that beautifully showcased the role of pharmacy in health, science, and community outreach—while giving future pharmacists the opportunity to connect, educate and inspire.
