UM brings research excellence to the streets at Science in the City 2025

Malta’s National Science and Arts Festival, Science in the City, returns for its 14th edition on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September 2025, once again transforming Valletta into a vibrant hub of discovery, creativity, and community.

This was announced at the launch of the festival that took place on 26 August 2025 in front of the University of Malta Library, at the Msida Campus.

Drawing over 30,000 yearly attendees, with the support of 600 volunteers, 90 organisations, 50+ international acts, and at its very core the dedication of over 80 University of Malta researchers, the festival continues to thrive as a platform where knowledge is shared, explored, and celebrated.

Their research, translated into interactive exhibits, talks, and performances, ensures that the festival is not only entertaining but also deeply educational, bridging the gap between academia and society and most of all bringing research out of the lecture halls and laboratories into the heart of the community.

Under the theme ‘Past Forward’, this year’s edition reflects on how lessons from past achievements and challenges continue to shape today’s innovations and creativity. It also underscores the indispensable role of education in the STEAM disciplines in nurturing and sustaining ideas, ensuring their lasting impact on future generations.
