Xjenza Online is seeking candidates for the position of Editor-in-Chief, for a term of 5 years, beginning January 2018. The first issue under the direction of this editor is expected to be Volume 6, Issue 1 (June 2018). There is no financial compensation associated with this position. There is however an opportunity for a powerful and enriching experience at the helm of one of Malta’s most prestigious inter-disciplinary scientific and academic journals.
Role and Responsibilities
The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of Xjenza Online will enjoy a direct relationship with the publisher, The Malta Chamber of Scientists, including but not limited to an experienced and dedicated office team. Although working in a collaborative environment, we will rely directly on personal experiences, vision, and expertise, to discuss issues, plans, and other business related items related to the journal.
The main responsibilities of the EIC include:
- generate initiatives and ideas designed to bring a fresh perspective of business processes
- recommend new approaches for author engagement and increased readership
- plan and set the future direction of the journal
- solicit manuscripts from leading practitioners with a vision for positive and progressive growth, and focus on topics that are of interest and relevance to a dedicated Maltese and International readership
- attended meetings, conferences, and symposiums, the EIC will build on their network of colleagues, who are invited to submit current and topical research papers to the journal. During the above conferences and meetings, the EIC will be recognised as an official representative of the journal
- plan the editorial line-up one year in advance
- effectively enhance the reputation and help to shape the forward progression and future direction of the journal through the submission of an editorial in each of the issues that provides a perspective on current content and its impact on science practice
- work with Project Editor, Copy Editor and the Chamber of Scientists to:
- maintain and establish new policies and procedures as appropriate to reflect relevant changes in practice and publishing Science
- appoint section (associate) editors and keep them regularly informed through board meeting and other forms of communication.
Qualifications
Successful applicants will demonstrate the following qualifications:
- possess a strategic vision for the continued strength and growth of the journal and a commitment to the continued improvement of the journal
- be a distinguished member of the scientific Maltese community through research excellence, scholarly contributions, and other relevant activities
- possess a wide knowledge of and broad experience in science
- experience as an editor, associate editor, or editorial board member of an international/national journal in a related field
- strong leadership qualities
- work in an environment with sufficient protected time to accommodate the Editor’s workload.

- a curriculum vitae or resume that accurately portrays your experience, indicates your current affiliation(s), and lists your current contact information
- a vision statement (1 page max) that provides a vision for Xjenza Online under your leadership. Items to address may include:
- ideas for increasing high-quality submissions
- how the journal should address the broad spectrum of disciplines and interests represented by its readership.

Interviews will be conducted in August at the University of Malta Msida Campus.

Xjenza Online is the Journal of the Malta Chamber of Scientists under the auspices of RIDT of the University of Malta and is published by the Chamber in in electronic format. Xjenza Online is a peer-reviewed, open access international journal available now with FREE processing charges. The journal publishes Original Research, Review Articles, Short Communication, and thought-provoking Editorials and Commentaries in the fields of mathematics, statistics, geology, engineering, computer science, social sciences, natural and earth sciences, technological sciences, linguistics, industrial, nanotechnology, biology, chemistry, physics, zoology, medical studies, electronics and all other applied and theoretical aspect of sciences. The journal is published twice a year (June and December) in English language, and publishes supplements dedicated to specific areas of science.
One of the aims of Xjenza Online, besides highlighting the exciting nationally and internationally research, is to provide training for undergraduate and graduate students and young researchers in the art of scientific publishing in a peer-reviewed environment. Xjenza, therefore, might become an essential tool in the scientific development of early-stage researchers, and represent a learning platform where they can learn not only how to write a scientific paper, but also how to get it published.
Currently, Xjenza Online is under the process of indexing in selective scientific databases and we expect the new EiC to continue this process.
