RIDT Overseas Conferences Grants for PhD students

The Doctoral School is pleased to announce the ninth call for applications for the University's Research, Innovation & Development Trust (RIDT) grants which allow Ph.D. students to present their research during conferences overseas.

Registered UM Ph.D. students who have transferred their studies, are encouraged to submit their application through the dedicated Application form (Form A), by Saturday 31 October 2026. These competitive grants would cover expenses related to participation in conferences overseas and in which the students would be disseminating their findings through first-author papers or first-author posters.

The applications will be evaluated by a board made up of a representative of the RIDT, the Director of the Doctoral School and the Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer.

Applicants will be informed within one month of the closing date of the call whether their application has been successful. The application must be approved prior to the student attending the conference.

Grants shall be paid as a reimbursement to cover 75% of eligible expenses incurred and the per diem allowance, up to a maximum of €1,750.

Information about the Eligibility, Selection Criteria, and General Conditions for Travel, can be found on the website. Please ensure to read this information properly before submitting your application.

Further help is available at the Doctoral School Offices, by email or through our page.

"The RIDT funding enabled me to attend and present research at the 38th International Association of Paper Historians (IPH) Congress, providing an important opportunity to disseminate parts of my PhD research to an international audience. Presenting the work generated valuable questions and discussions that encouraged me to critically reflect on my research approach and findings. Paper is the primary substrate within the corpus examined in my PhD, and thus the conference was particularly relevant to my research. Engaging with colleagues, sharing experiences, references, notes, and findings, and learning about current research significantly enhanced my knowledge, broadened my overall perspective on complementary research areas, and opened vital new avenues for strengthening and contextualising my PhD study."
