Dr Michelle Attard Tonna and Dr Charmaine Bonello, from the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta, took part in several meetings hosted by the University of Split, Croatia (23–27 October 2025), as part of the Peer-Edu Project (“Competence Transformation in the University: Peer Tutoring as a Key Element in Supporting Student Development”).
The meetings brought together academic teams from the University of Gdańsk (Poland), University of Split (Croatia), and the University of Malta to co-develop two peer tutoring training programmes aimed at strengthening students’ and academics' collaborative and leadership competences as peer tutors and peer tutor trainers. These programmes focus on areas such as social and dialogic communication, active listening, motivation, teamwork, and mentoring.
This initiative lays the groundwork for the upcoming Peer Tutoring Training Programme, which will be piloted with a group of second-year BA Primary Education students from Malta in Gdańsk in December 2025.
The collaboration reflects the Faculty’s commitment to innovative, student-centred approaches and international partnerships that enrich teaching and learning.
