The University of Malta Senate, at its meeting of 22 September, has appointed Prof. Norbert Bugeja as the new Chair of the Editorial Board of Malta University Press.
Prof. Bugeja is Associate Professor within the Department of English and Director of the Mediterranean Institute. He served for several years as General Editor of the Journal of Mediterranean Studies, and has collaborated in various capacities with leading international publishing and scholarly platforms, including Routledge ABES, Project Muse and several other academic and literary publishers and organisations. He is a former member of the Anna Lindh Foundation International Advisory Board and a former Deputy Chair of the National Book Council. He is also an internationally published poet.
The Malta University Press is the scholarly publisher of the University of Malta. The Press is specialised in producing high quality and rigorously peer-reviewed works on Malta and the Mediterranean, with particular interest in the humanities and social sciences. It provides a professional platform for scholarly and academic works, and assists authors in establishing their presence within the global literary community.
Prof. Bugeja's appointment comes in the wake of the passing of former MUP Chair, Prof. Ġorġ Mallia, earlier this year. In a statement, Prof. Bugeja expressed his intention to work closely with Krista Bonnici, MUP's Production Editor, and the Editorial Board in order to build on the excellent work and stewardship of Prof. Ġorġ Mallia and Prof. Jean-Paul Baldacchino, the two previous MUP chairpersons.
