Last month, Dr Nathalie Buhagiar, Occupational Therapist and Lecturer at the University of Malta, collaborated with Jean Marc Cafa’, Theatre Director and Arts Educational Specialist, to deliver a specially adapted version of the “Think Sensory” workshop to members of TRUPPA – Teatru Malta’s Youth Company.
Designed for young people aged 11 to 16, the workshop introduced participants to the sensory systems and explored how these influence self-development, emotional regulation, and everyday performance. Through interactive activities, the youngsters were encouraged to discover the power of movement, body awareness, and the often-overlooked “hidden senses”, gaining a deeper understanding of how their bodies and minds work together.
Blending expertise from occupational therapy and theatre education, the session created a dynamic learning environment where science met creativity. The experiential nature of the workshop allowed participants to learn by doing; moving, reflecting, and engaging with their senses in meaningful and enjoyable ways.
The workshop proved to be both educational and energising, transforming a Saturday morning into a fun-filled and enriching experience for all involved, while highlighting the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in supporting young people’s wellbeing and personal growth.
