Modern slavery – the hidden face of prosperity

Event: Modern slavery – the hidden face of prosperity

Date: Wednesday 26 November 2025

Time: 18:00-20:00

Venue: The Theology Library, The Archbishop's Seminary, Tal-Virtu'

A public discussion on job precarity and the challenges faced by foreign workers in Malta, who now represent about 25% of the national workforce, is being organised by LOGOS on Wednesday, 26 November at 18:00, at the Theological Seminary Library, Tal-Virtù, Rabat.

The main speaker is Katrine Camilleri, a Maltese lawyer and director of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Malta.

The event aims to shed light on the social and ethical dimensions of Malta’s economic growth and to consider how our society can uphold dignity, fairness, and justice for all workers.

The discussion will take the form of a dialogue exploring how prosperity can be pursued without compromising human rights or solidarity, with particular attention to those whose struggles often remain unseen.

Attendees will be encouraged to participate in a respectful, solutions-oriented conversation aimed at identifying practical ways forward for policymakers, employers, civil society, and communities alike.

LOGOS is a Church-based initiative dedicated to promoting hope and human dignity through dialogue. As a think tank, it reads the signs of the times and fosters reflection on issues shaping contemporary Maltese society. Its purpose is to inspire informed public debate and help guide the country towards a more just and compassionate future.

Participation is free, but registration is required.

To register, fill in the form online or send an email.
