Event: Board Game Night with Mighty Boards with a Twist - Playtesting your games
Date: Wednesday 13 May 2026
Time: 18:00-22:00
Venue: Institute of Digital Games, UM Msida Campus
We are kicking off another fun-packed Board Game Night at the Institute of Digital Games with Mighty Boards. This month, we’re keeping all the tabletop fun you know and love, but we’re adding a special twist: an open invitation for local creators to show us what they’re working on!
Alongside our usual selection of games, Mighty Boards will be in the house testing and demoing some brand-new projects—and we want all local game creators (both digital and board games) to join in.
Board Game Night is On!
First things first: Board Game Night is continuing exactly as it always has. If you just want to grab a Kinnie, sit down with friends, and play Ticket to Ride, Codenames, or any of our usual library games, this night is still 100% for you!
The only difference is that while the usual gaming is happening, we are dedicating a special space for work-in-progress games. Our goal is to build our local community, give constructive feedback, and help develop the game design scene here in Malta.
Playtest Your Project
Bring a prototype, play games created by our students, faculty, and local Maltese designers, and let's discuss how to push mechanics, refine designs, and take everyone’s game to the next level.
Designers, players, and game enthusiasts of any level of expertise are welcome. The best playtests include players from all backgrounds, so if your only qualification is that you like playing games with friends, you are exactly who we need!
If you’re a creator looking to playtest, bring any and all games, prototypes, or early-stage ideas, such as:
Anything else you’d like to stress-test with an engaged audience
Bonus: You'll be testing your game in a room full of some of the best designers in Malta (and beyond—e.g. Mighty Boards’ Fateforge won 21st Board Game of the Year Gala in Poland in 2024 !).
How to Participate
If you’re just coming to play: Simply show up at the Institute of Digital Games! No sign-up is necessary. You can drop in anytime between 18:00 and 19:30 on 13 May. We’re located right outside the main University of Malta campus in Msida, just down the road from the skatepark.
If you want to playtest your own game: All you need to do is bring your game and all the equipment, pieces, or boards needed to play it. If you need a monitor, specific equipment, or a little extra help, send a message to the Institute of Digital Games beforehand so we can sort you out.
When you arrive, we’ll have open tables ready for you to set up your prototype, or you can just walk around, pull up a chair, and start playing! Staff from Mighty Boards and the Institute of Digital Games will be wandering around all evening if you need help finding a space, a game, or players.
See you there!
