Event: Launch of the DECC Research Cluster: Discourses of the Environment & Climate Change
Date: Tuesday 24 March 2026
Time: 17:00
Venue: Faculty of Arts Library
Join us for the official launch of the DECC Research Cluster, the new interdisciplinary initiative spearheaded by the Faculty of Arts.
DECC explores the critical role of language, literature, and culture in addressing the climate crisis, bridging the gap between the Humanities and the Sciences.
Spearheaded by academics in the fields of Languages, Linguistics, Literary and Culture Studies, the cluster includes members from a wide range of disciplines, including Sociology, Tourism Studies, Theatre Studies, Geosciences, Earth Systems, Archaeology, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability. This diversity allows the cluster to explore how environmental issues are articulated across cultures, languages and regions.
The event will open with a welcome address by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dominic Fenech, followed by an overview of the cluster by Dr Katrin Dautel and Prof. Stavros Assimakopoulos.
UM's Pro-Rector for Research & Knowledge Transfer, Prof. Ing. Simon G. Fabri, will also deliver a short speech.
It will feature a short presentation of the Cluster’s mission, pillars and projects, followed by a drinks reception at the Faculty of Arts foyer.
