The Department of Spatial Planning and Infrastructure has the remit to focus on sustainable planning and development, and on infrastructural issues of relevance to Malta, including urban and spatial planning, urban design, landscape planning, transport planning, water and mineral resources, solid and liquid waste management, geographic information systems applied to spatial planning, related public policies and EU legislation, urban governance, regional development and environmental impact assessments. Members of this Department are involved in research, teaching, and consultancy in the above fields.
ECTP – European Council of Spatial Planners
Founded in 1985, ECTP-CEU (European Council of Spatial Planners – Conseil Européen des Urbanistes) brings together 28 professional spatial planning associations and institutes from 24 European countries as well as corresponding members.
It is a non-profit umbrella association providing its members with a common framework to promote the visibility, recognition of the important societal role and best practice of spatial planning and urban development in Europe. We promote continuing professional development, ethics and professional responsibilities and high quality teaching.
ECTP-CEU engages in dialogue with local, national and European governments, sets standards of conduct and education for the spatial planning profession and identifies, and rewards examples of good planning all over Europe.
Kamra Maltija għall-Ippjanar – Malta Chamber of Planners
The Malta Chamber of Planners was founded in 1997 by a number of newly graduated planners. Its main objective is to create awareness towards and promote proper spatial planning in the Maltese Islands as well as seek to obtain recognition of the planning profession which as yet is not recognised in Malta. The Chamber is a full member of the European Council of Spatial Planners as well as the Commonwealth Association of Planners.
