Abstract: In July 1997, the conservation of a remarkable collection of 26 'dragon' playing cards, some depicting the Knights of Malta, was carried out at the Book Restoration Laboratory of the National Library, Valletta, Malta. The extremely rare cards had been donated to the small museum of St Lawrence Parish Church in Vittoriosa, by its curator, Lorenzo Zahra. When examined, the cards were found to be housed between glass measuring 42 x 36cm, with pressure sensitive tape all around the edges. The cards displayed a caption: 'Playing cards used by Knights 1609'.
