Abstract: | Between the 14th and 16th century Gozo suffered frequent corsair attacks. During this period the island maintained a militia and a system of watchtowers to defend itself from such attacks. These towers served to house watches whose main job was to alert the population of any approaching Moorish vessels. The towers also served as an important link of communication between Malta and Gozo. |
