Editors' preface [Acta Anaesthesiologica Melitensis, volume 1, issue 2]

Abstract

Our Association, member of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists and the European Section of the same, has pledged itself to encourage clinical research on the Island of Malta and Gozo besides the avowed strife for the best possible Anaesthetic, Intensive Therapy and Analgesic service. In this regard, it is worthwhile mentioning that during the past year, our department has participated actively in Cardiac, and Renal transplant surgery performed locally. Since the first issue of this Acta has been published one year ago, three important events have to be documented: The recognition of the post graduate training facilities our Medical School can offer in the field of Anaesthesia and other subjects. This recognition has been forth- coming from the Universite Libre de Brussel and the Katholike Universiteit, Leuven in Belgium. Dr. David Spiteri has already completed one year of training in Leuven. The introduction of Acupuncture Therapy for relief of pain and otherconditions. This service has been started by Dr. Cheung, a graduate of Nanching Medical School in China. The collaboration with the St John Brigade in teaching Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation to the lay public. This issue of the Acta comprises all the scientific papers of anaesthesiologists and other staff working in St. Luke's Hospital and the attached Medical School; also included are articles by former colleagues who are now working in Czechoslovakia.
