Abstract: | To date, a large variety of transgenic crops have been developed. These crops have been modified to express traits such as tolerance to herbicides, resistance to insect pests and viruses and production of enhanced nutrients. Proponents of GM technology argue that these modifications can only be beneficial to humans, as they reduce harmful effects to the environment as well as enhance crop yields. Opponents, however, cite different studies and rebut these arguments. This paper addresses the ethical arguments most commonly cited for and against transgenic crops and analyses these issues. |
