Abstract: This qualitative study explored the parental and professional awareness and perspectives on dyslexia. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with three parents and three professionals to gain insight on their understanding, awareness and their experiences with dyslexia. Consequently, emerging themes highlighted the emotional, psychological and social response to the diagnosis and the parental and professional adjustment to such circumstances. The relationship between dyslexia and the parental perspectives, and the relationship between dyslexia and the professional perspective were analysed and were examined individually. All of these subjects were brought together to ameliorate the parental and professional perspectives on dyslexia and to expand their knowledge, which eventually would provide greater support and understanding towards the child’s dyslexic needs. From this research seven common themes where elicited through thematic analysis: Dyslexia diagnosis, The Educational/Schooling experience, Postive reinforcement, Reaching same standards, Support network, Inclusion and Self-esteem and empowerment.
