Abstract: The purpose behind the Wignacourt Aqueduct was to transport water from the town of Rabat to the capital, Valletta. Water would then travel through Attard, Birkirkara, Hamrun and Floriana prior to arriving to the main fountain in Valletta. Although some of the funds required for the project were gathered from donations, most of the expenses were paid for by Grandmaster Wignacourt, who thus became a popular figure among the Maltese people.
