Abstract: The business of the Corso was a staple industry for the island during the 18th century. However, external influences complicated matters for Malta- primarily, Rome’s disapproval of Malta’s development as an independent state and France’s commercial ambitions. Cavalieri investigates these conflicts of interest in detail.
