| Abstract: | Current trends in society which affect urban development Migration of poor people from developing countries in consumerist cities is increasing worldwide. Many of these end up living in sub-standard environments (Rogers, 1997). In 1950, 30% of the world’s population was deemed urban; currently it is at 54% and by 2050, 66% of the world’s population is expected to be living in cities (United Nations, 2014). Demographic intensification in cities is challenging the supply of land and this is leading to social instability and deterioration on the environment. |
