| Abstract: | The principal aims of this Seminar are to discuss the guidelines to better the services regarding the quality of life of the handicapped person and his family, to increase opportunities and to promote a more comfortable and happier life in the community. This can be attained through positive attitudes, mutual respect and work. It seems that in this Seminar none of these qualities are lacking. The particular needs of the disabled to reach this goal are several. The first thing that has to be done is to identify them immediately after birth or immediately after the disabilities causing the problem have appeared; necessary measures are to be applied to minimize the handicap by means of medical and paramedical interventions; health and hygiene must be taken care of; special education must be given to handicapped persons mainly to lead an independent life and then to learn other skills and crafts; and through social work, handicapped persons could be integrated in society. |
