| Abstract: | River patterns, at a level between that of the hydrologist and that of the river biologist, have escaped study. This paper introduces concepts to describe and evaluate these, using both natural and man-made attributes. The river course is divided into (reasonably uniform) segments, each then described by its sizes, banks, flood plains, vegetation, artefacts, etc. |
