Stress in the banking sector : the relationship between stress, age, gender, job position and station in the banking sector

Abstract

The present study was aimed to analyze the impact of age, gender, job position and where one is stationed, whether in a locality branch or in a department, on the level of occupational stress in bankers. A quantitative approach has been used to explore the impact of age, gender, job position and station on occupational stress by using a sample of 142 bankers working in a chosen local bank. The Professional Life Stress Scale (Fontana, 1989), was adapted accordingly by adding demographics, and used as a means of collecting data. Data was collected through questionnaires received online and by mail. For data analysis, all data was inputted into IBM SPSS Statistics Version 20 and, the one-way ANOVA test was applied. Data analysis revealed that no statistical difference is observed between gender and age, and levels of stress. Nevertheless stress levels between different job positions was found to be statistically significant, however difference between bankers allocated in branches and departments was not found to be statistically significant.
