Basics of refrigeration

Abstract

The project report is laid out on the basis of a new simple refrigeration plant which I have seen installed and commissioned at Massra, Simonds-Farsons-Cisk Ltd., which is a company concerned with the brewing and bottling of beer and soft drinks. The report layout is such that I have taken this simple system item by item and when considering and discussing every item of plant actually used I was able to expand on to other similar devices available for use in conjunction with, or in place of, the item actually used. This report is therefore planned in the following manner: 1. General definition of terms used in refrigeration engineering 2. Basic refrigeration cycle and results thereof: (a) Factors which affect operating conditions (b) Primary refrigeration (c) Evaporators, compressors, condensers (d) Refrigerants control (e) Refrigerant system components 3. The planning of a cold space for storage 4. Considerations for calculating a refrigeration load 5. Defrost systems
