| Abstract: | This work is a survey of the different methods of ac motor control and control devices. It is mainly restricted to three phase industrial motors. With the increase in the need for automation and more precise operation of machinery a lot of work has been done to meet these needs, in recent years. the methods currently in the following account, does not exhaust all use in the control of electrically driven machinery, but covers the general methods in use. Noise control has been also incorporated due to the awareness, in recent years, of the effects of noise pollution. I am very grateful to my lecturer Mr. F. Malia (Bsc. Elect. Eng.) for his invaluable technical advice and suggestions in compiling and laying out this project. f am also indebted to the Publicity and Sales managers of the GEC Machines for supplying me with publications of their most up to date motor ranges and control methods, I would also like to thank the personnel at Malta Drydock Electrical Complex for their patience, in answering my innumerable questions on the topic, and going out of their way to provide me with chances to work on the very wide range of motors and control units they service and repair. I am also greatly indebted to Miss Joyce Borg for sacrificing much of her free time typing out the original script. |
