| Abstract: | Following the 1860 introduction of the 1/2d buff/yellow/orange - and most shades in between - there was a gap of 25 years before Malta introduced its first set of definitive stamps. On pt (some sources have 2"d) January 1885 six stamps were issued, the lowest denomination is the Yid green - Stanley Gibbons 20 (Joseph Buttigieg 10, Michel 4, Scott 8, Unificato 5, Yvert 5). This Victoria stamp was designed by Jean Ferdinand Joubert de Ia Ferte, photographer and artist/stamp engraver for De Ia Rue. |
