Abstract: For the past years, I have – in my sparse spare time – endeavoured to work out my family tree. I have started with my immediate family members and – trying to waste no time in losing valuable testimony – interviewed the eldest family members alive, in order to get to know who their parents, grandparents, uncles and great uncles were. With the information gained, I then proceeded to work out the names of parents and siblings of my known ancestors by laboriously going through baptism and wedding parish records which have been scanned and made available online. I do not know exactly why I did this; but somehow, I thought that knowing something about my ancestors might tell me something about myself.
