| Abstract: | The schism between the Church and the people, which the German priest and theologian Johann Baptiste Metz writes about, is still here, close to six decades after the council. I still hear priests referring to ‘the people,’ where it is very obvious that they are not including themselves within that collective noun. In speaking of the people as separate from themselves, ordained ministers, whose intention, I would presume, is to present themselves as above the rest, as the more privileged part of the Church, actually end up excluding themselves from the Church. |
