A nineteenth-century English manuscript with notes on the Maltese language

Abstract

Introduction: The British Library is in possession of a manuscript document with some notes on the Maltese language. These are found in a manuscript volume classified 'Additional MS 31295' which contains miscellaneous manuscript material comprising 104 folios. This is one of 31 manuscript volumes from a collection of Charles Wycliffe Goodwin, 'a versatile and gifted man' from Norfolk, England, classified 'Additional MSS', and numbered 31268-31298. The collection had been purchased from Mrs Augustine Ann Goodwin, Charles Wycliffe's wife, for £150, on 13 November 1880, by the Department of Manuscripts of the British Library, after the latter's death.
