Abstract: The existence of peer pressure amongst juveniles is recognised through several studies and literature. However, the impact and the link between peer pressure and juvenile delinquency is still vague. Therefore, this paper aims to get a better insight and understanding of such phenomena. This paper is based on the experiences that the professional interviewees have, combined with the relevant literature available. In addition, this research seeks to understand how peer pressure is exhibited, its effects, and the power that peer pressure may have on juveniles. Moreover, this study deals with new techniques and systems to lessen negative peer pressure among juveniles. A qualitative approach was employed throughout this study and open-ended questions (Appendix A) were utilised during the interviews with professionals. This allowed the researcher to discover different aspects and provide a better understanding of the subject. Thus, according to the interviews and literature gathered it is suggested that education and awareness programmes are of paramount importance. Additionally, empowering systems in place are also important to diminish negative peer influence. Such systems can make use of social media applications and 24/7 helplines accessible to all young people. Ultimately, this study discovered that peer pressure among juveniles is present and may lead to criminal activities. However, systems and frameworks can be implemented to diminish such influences and promote more positive lifestyles.
