Abstract: The term 'learning to learn', sometimes also expressed as 'learning how to learn' (for a critique see Winch, 2008), describes the process of acquiring those skills that provide the learner with the possibility of understanding and mastering any area of knowledge at present or in the future. Learning to learn skills are transferable, inside and outside the classroom, and from one subject to another. Learning to learn can be carried out either by oneself as in ' independent study, or in learning with others as a social activity with or without a teacher. It could be self-directed, group-directed in a collaborative context, or institutional.
