Abstract: | This is a walking tour guide about Pieta. Pieta is a small town very close to Valletta . It started after the Great Siege in 1565. It was disrupted twice due to plagues . Due to its growth, a chapel was built and dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows ( La Pieta in Italian). For a period, the chapel also served as vice-parish to St Paul's Shipwreck church in Valletta. in 1922 the British Government built a Government Hospital which attracted a lot of people to Pieta. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip lived in Villa Guardamangia (Pieta) from 1949 to 1951 whiles the Prince was serving in the Royal Navy. |
