| Abstract: | Maleth is the ancient Phoenican name for Malta meaning "Haven" and this sunny isle off the toe of sicily has become just that to thousands of winter-weary Britons. While other Europeans are beginning to discover it also, Malta, today an independent self-governing nation of the British Commonwealth, has a special affinity with Britain, cemented by the Royal Navy which for 160 years used the island as home for its Mediterranean Fleet. Its Grand Harbour, flanked by Valletta the capital, is one of the finest and most beautiful in the world. [Excerpt] |
